Instant Messaging on Playlist!

by Nick at Playlist on July 8, 2009

We're very happy to announce that we've partnered with Meebo to bring you instant messaging across all of Playlist (and beyond!). At the bottom of this and every page on Playlist, you'll now see our brand new IM bar. But what exactly does this thing do?

To start, you can use it to easily IM your friends on Playlist. The users you are following will automatically be added to your buddy list. Just click on them and type away. You'll even get updates when these friends create new playlists so you can check them out right away.

But it gets better. You can also add your friends from other IM accounts such as AIM, Facebook chat, and Google Talk to your buddy list and chat with them regardless of where they are. You can even share with them anything you're checking out on Playlist or post your favorite playlists to Twitter and Facebook just by clicking the "Share Page" button at the bottom left.

And this is just the beginning. We'll be rolling out new uses for IM in the coming days. For now, we hope you enjoy chatting and listening to music with your friends from all over the web!

Group playlists are here!

by Nick at Playlist on May 13, 2009

Hey Playlisters,

Today, we're introducing a brand new way to organize and share your favorite music socially. We're calling it "group playlists," and as you might have guessed, it allows you to build your playlists with other people! From selecting songs to commenting on each other's choices, group playlists are a great way for you and your friends to have a say in the music you listen to together.

Here's how it works: any playlist (new or old) can become a group playlist. Just click on the big, green "Make Group Playlist" button on a playlist's page and you're done! From there, you can begin inviting anyone you'd like to add songs to the playlist. Friends, family, co-workers... it doesn't matter. In no time, you'll all be collaborating to make the best playlist ever.

Check it out and be sure to let us know how you're using your group playlists!

Nick.
