EXPORTING TO WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
Posted by keeter_15 8 weeks 5 days ago
I'm having trouble exporting my playlist to Windows Media Player. Everytime I try to export it there it says: The playlist cannot be opened because it is stored in a shared folder on another computer. If possible, move the playlist to the playlists folder on your computer, but idk how to do that. Can anyone help me???

It's still a feature. I tried to play the asx stream on Winamp and Vlc Player, got an error. So far it only works on Windows Media Player.

Do you have Windows Media Player version 11? If so, Windows Media Player version 11 appears to be putting up a misleading error message when it encounters a file with invalid metafile information.
In previous versions of WMP the message would be:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the associated playlist is not valid." - which basically means one of the links pointed to a file with incorrect or invalid metafile information.
In version 11 the error (which is very misleading) is:
"The playlist cannot be opened because it is stored in a shared folder on another computer. If possible, move the playlist to the playlists folder on your computer." - but still seems be indicative of a link to a file that contains invalid metafile information.
The easiest way to determine which link (or links) are causing the problem may be to create a new Test playlist and copy/add 10 or so of the songs/links from the playlist that is getting the error to the new playlist and try using the Export To Windows Media Player after each set of additions is made until the error happens with the new playlist.
Keep in mind the playlist may contain more than one problematic song/link so if you remove one that you isolate through the steps above and still see the error you will have to keep copying/adding them in groups to locate potential other problem songs/links.
