Licensing Issues?
Posted by miester861 19 weeks 4 days ago
While I respect the events of two or three months back, and recognise that it wasn't the fault of Playlist...
I have to lift a massive 'What the HELL?' to you guys when EVERY SINGLE song, from my playlist of one-hundred-twenty-something tracks, is blocked and greyed out.
Considering that it includes songs from most genres, with a wide variety of artists, how does this happen? Especially since I doubt that a HIGH SCHOOL of all things would be after you for licensing reasons.
As the error message says something about playback in my country (UK) I'm guessing this may be some sort of server malfunction?
If this could be fixed quickly, that'd be great, if not, I'd like an explanation.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, playback of songs/tracks is currently limited by licensing restrictions in your part of the world.
We are currently investigating ways to offer audio to restricted locations in the future; in the meantime, you should be able to use our new Video Playlist and the video search function.

Yeah, maybe this happens for some kind of "testing purpose" again (like in March or April this year) or finally Warner (WMG) did win their lawsue against project playlist...?!? Read here:
- Project Playlist Picks Up Total Music Leftovers From Universal, but Hasn’t Settled Lawsuit
- or
- Everyone In The Music Business Hates Project Playlist - Except For Sony BMG
But for first aid try out to run your web-browser/system-gatway/personal-router through some anonymous (non-located) or foregin proxy-server that is not located in the country of your original provider or internet gateway! A quite simple way to pass by these issues, THAT WORKS!!!
At least i was able to save my precious playlist-datas (containing all the original URLs) into .ASX-Files b4 they might dissapear completely. And i would recommend to everybody else who had spent a lot of hours to build up her/his playlist(s) to do so too, if you should want to build up similar ones on an other free music-portal (if playlist.com might "deceased" one time...)!

1500+ songs not working over 25+ players im in the uk and im disgusted theres not 1 warning it was fine lastnight and now its screwed. if we in the uk are gonna be treated with complete disrespect when stuff like this happens your gonna loose lots of users to other sites. not as if this was just done must have been expected or at least taken time to arrange not as if a bult email to all users warning them of problems is so hard to type up and send.

Notice, the songs that don't work, you can still see on Video. Why isn't that restricted also?

An explanation would be fine, and don’t see this as an attempt to judge you.

im not replacing 1798 songs on playlist after this they dont fix it im gone from this site simple as that bad enough you have to listen to every track cos ppl upload incomplete or bad quality music or the wrong song for the name given, time itll take to fix my playlists is gonna be far to long and to do it in the hopes it dont happen again well that just plain stupid rather go else where bye bye playlist.com

In reply to lordhoodie You can get this fixed easyly by yourself - just read my posting above this!!!
- And to make it clear to everyone:
- Playlist.com DID NOT upload ANY of the tracks in Your playlists - it is just another SEARCH-ENGINE for MP3-files (hosted somewhere else in the www) with an intelligent database and a connected-to-it streaming flash-player!

Umm... yeah...
Due to licensing issues, I can no longer listen to music *I wrote myself*, nor can any of my friends...
That's just stupid.
Perhaps the admins of the site might want to remove ccmixter.org from the blocklist? After all, one of the points of Creative Commons licensing is that it's free to distribute...

Kinda of defeats the concept of having this website, who wants to browse those cheap nasty videos and not be able to get actual track listings..

Guess what, Youtube is for that purpose. Originality, please.

i may not have anywhere near the same amount of songs as lordhoodie, but he's got a point. We spent quite some time building these playlists up. Ive been listening to my own everyday for age's now since it is the easiest way. And then all of a sudden it being blocked off completely no warning what so ever? Thats really bad y'know D: i mean, thanks pulsecode for the help, but why should we? the whole point of this site was so we could listen to our music fast and easy in one playlist (or multipul if thats what you've done). So why should we do what your telling us, on a site thats supposed to do this? I doubt it could be for licensing reasons cause then why now? why not a long time ago? Clean up your act playlist.com this is hardly fair on your user's.

Ive had my playlist for over a 2 and a half years now. Its (almost) worked fine for that time. And suddenly it stops?! It was fine yesterday! Why didnt they give us some warning? They had better fix this quick or they will have lost a loyal member.
