MySpace's Reason Why They Blocked Project Playlist.

Posted by PicAFlic 1 year 4 days ago

I just thought I'd share this with fellow people who use Project Play list and who agrees with me that it's a load of BS. This is a message I received from "MySpace Help" (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=86892) the other day from a response of a message of me asking why they blocked Project Playlist on their site.

Your Project Playlist widget has been removed from your profile in response to copyright complaints. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but it is absolutely imperative that MySpace respect the rights of copyright owners, artists and record labels.

Isn't Online Music Free?

No, MySpace, Rhapsody, Napster, Imeem, Yahoo Music, Pandora, Last.FM all pay fees to the artist and record labels for the rights for you to play their music online. It may seem free to you, but if it's legal, someone is probably paying for you to hear the music.

Don't I Have the Right to Listen to Songs I Purchased on Amazon, MySpace, iTunes or on CD in My Project Playlist Player?

No, buying the album or song does not give you the right to put the songs in your Project Playlist Player, or upload them to MySpace, or upload them to any file sharing service.

When will I be able to use a Project Playlist music player on MySpace again?

As soon as their legal situation is settled, and the artists are getting paid, MySpace will consider re-enabling the embedding of Project Playlist music players.

Where Do I Get Legal Playlists for My Profile?

Imeem, Last.FM, iLike, and MySpace Music are all good options.

Thanks for your understanding,
MySpace

I THINK THEY JUST WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLAYLIST, MINE WAS DELETED BUT I RECEIVED NO MESSAGE. ONE DAY IT WAS JUST GONE

I got that same message but my player is still working on MySpace. I am confused as to what is really going on here. If the player was banned, then mine should not work but it does.

Perhaps playlists with certain songs/artists are banned?

Actually, if you want to face facts, MySpace is 100% correct.

ProjectPlaylist just recently, in fact, stopped the ability to illegally download music. If you are over 10 years old, you've heard all about illegal music downloads and how the music industry is holding people accountable for ripping them off. Sure, they are money wh*res richer than god, but they are still in a business and have every right to respect due any person with a job and an expectation of getting paid for their work.

I love ProjectPlaylist and use it everywhere I have a blog. That doesn't mean I ignore the things about it that are unfair to artists.

I think since ProjectPlaylist has disabled the download ability, artists and music companies should no longer have a problem with these playlists. After all, these playlists are FREE ADVERTISEMENT.

There are a lot of songs and artists I've never heard of that I hear for the first time on someone's ProjectPlaylist posted elsewhere online. It was because of this that I bought my last three CD's of artists I learned about through ProjectPlaylist - at no cost to the artist or the artist's manager/record label.

I think a degree of respect should now be awarded to ProjectPlaylist for this, but as long as record companies still deem it "stealing" or such, MySpace has the right to watch its six and keep it off of their site.

I got the same message up above, was so mad. lol
But yes, i guess what the person above me has said is true, but it still sure as hell sux!!
Dont they make enough already? There's many people who cant afford to pay for songs and...were greatful. lol
That's like charging people to received donations!

well, idk, i see both sides of the story tho. If they knew this would even be a possibility of happening, they shouldn't have built this to disappoint people.

What is their real reasoning does anyone know..
And I have been to many spaces and they still have Their playlist on their pages....So how come just SOME were taken off.

I believe you hit the nail on the head with this being based on which songs/artist you have on your playlist. Mine was zapped and I received the message on my email. I understand the legal BS but then why didn't they plan ahead BEFORE initiating the right to post to MySpace? Go figure...too many wants and not looking into the consequences...

All playlist.com players are banned but it's done from a script, which isn't perfect - they have millions of pages to scan, so if you haven't done the workaround to make it stay then you will lose it when you update your page. but no worries, you can get it back by altering the code. learn how from the page i made below...
