Music to the Writer
by foleylistens on September 17, 2009
As with my blog. I always have music going in the background. There are a couple of songs on my playlist that deal with being a writer.
Metallica "Broken Beaten and Scarred". It reflects the writing cycle. "You rise. You fall. And you rise again"
Nick Cave "We Call Upon the Author to Explain" Everyone who creates anything wants their work to be engaged on some level. Everyone who creates wants a chance to explain and defend their work.
I could not find this track. "Guardian Angel" by Lou Reed. This is from his "The Raven" album. The music is based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe.
The song for me represents the "dark side" of writing. It is the lone time with the work. The questioning and rewriting whatever I am writing.

It is hard to believe it has been 25 years since the release of Def Leppard's Pyromania album. It was the first album I ever bought. Today, I have it on the MP3 player and cannot stop listening to it. IT STILL ROCKS !!!!
That is why the first song from the album is on the playlist.
Rock! Rock! (til You Drop)
Welcome to My Soundtrack

I just want to say that I have no music ability itself. I do have an extensive music collection though.
I was going to write a posting on website(www.foleywrites.com)about my playlist. However, I am going to do hear on this site. Over time I am going to breakdown my playlist. I am going to be that "DJ from Hell".
I know my playlist is a bit electic. And some may find it challenging to listen to. But I think that is how a playlist should be.
Let me share this thought to start.
The Who rock opera albums Tommy or Quadraphenia.
Which one is you?
I think Tommy is about a person trying to become someone bigger than himself. While Quadraphenia is about a person trying to be himself.
So I have to go with Quadraphenia
